With so many fun games out there to choose from, let’s focus on 5 Spooky games you need to play at your next spooktacular game night!

I love a good game night and themes are always a bonus. It is a great way to narrow down some options. Plus, if you are really ambitious, you can build your menu and decorations around it, especially when considering spooky games!

What is The Foxxy5?

I started to compile lists on my favorite topics that may be of interest. Depending on the category, I may put together a longer list or link to relevant info. Generally, you will find 5 of my top picks or recommendations for any particular category or topic.

The topic at hand in this post is…

5 SPOOKY GAMES YOU NEED TO PLAY!!

1. Zombie Dice

This dice game is fun for a group of friends or just a few people. All the players are zombies looking for yummy brains to eat by rolling dice. Each round you will keep rolling until you decide to bank your points (brains), but, if you get three shotguns first, you forfeit all your points for that round. The object of the game is to have the most brains at the end of the final round. This round is determined once the first person hits 13 or more points!

Why I picked it: The game play is super easy and quick which makes it great for the family or a big group. We once had a group of about 12 players!! The game is really kid friendly without sacrificing the fun! I also like that the it doesn’t stop when a player hits 13. Instead everyone who has yet to take their turn in the round will be allowed the opportunity to unseat that player by receiving more brains on their turn. Oh and did I mention there are fun expansions?

General Game Info:

  • Players: 2-99
  • Age: 10+ (although I believe this could be played at a much younger age. My son has been playing since he was 6-7)
  • Time: 10-20 minutes

2. Betrayal at the House on the Hill

Cooperative fun with Betrayal

In this fan fave, players explore a haunted house of their own making. Characters use tiles to build the house while collecting omens, items and events and strengthening their characters. Eventually the “Haunt” is set off and the second phase of the game begins. At this time a traitor is discovered and everyone else becomes the heroes. The betrayer is provided a secret objective to win the game while the rest of the heroes work together to complete their objectives to defeat the betrayer before it’s too late.

Why I picked it: This game is always a fave and well known amongst the gaming community! The fact that there are 50 different haunts that can be set off helps keep the game interesting with each game play. Plus not knowing when the Haunt will be introduced and who will be the traitor keeps everyone in suspense!

General Game Info:

  • Players: 3-6
  • Age: 12+
  • Time: approx 60 minutes.

3. Clue

Clue…the most popular who-dun-it

In this classic board game, the goal is is to solve the mystery of the death of Mr. Boddy who was found dead in his mansion. who the murderer is, what weapon they used and in what room! Each player picks an iconic character that will obtain clues as they enter different rooms. You are also given a sheet to help keep track of it. The winner is the first person to correctly guess who the murderer is, what weapon they used and in which room.

Why I picked it: This classic never gets old because everyone loves a good who-dun-it! The game play is quick and simple. You don’t have to do anything bad to another play to get ahead. It is also nice to play a game where you don’t have to strategize against every one. It is all process of elimination and attention to detail.

General Game Info:

  • Players: 3-6
  • Age: 8+
  • Time: 45 minutes

4. Mysterium

This is a cooperative game where all the players work together to solve the murder. One player is assigned as the ghost and the others are psychics that the ghost speaks to through image cards, providing clues. The ghost plays a crucial role in solving the mystery so choose wisely. This role is good for someone who is pretty keen on detail and has a good undertanding of how their peers think. Like the game Clue, the objective is to determine the suspect, weapon and location of the murder with the use of image cards. Over the course of 7 rounds (“hours”) the ghost gives each individual their own clues to help them progress to the last round. If all the players make it there, they are given the opportunity to work together to find the murderer.

Why I Like it: I am a fan of games that can play more than 4-5 people as it gives options when you have a little bit bigger of a group and don’t want to split into different. The artwork is really cool and obscure and really helps to make this one of the more eerie and spooky games. And the interaction between players is really fun. Especially trying to interpret clues that are given.

General Game Info:

  • Players: 2-7
  • Age: 10+
  • Time: approximately 60 minutes

5. Horrified

This is a cooperative game where the players, or Heros, work together to save the village against classic monsters. The objective is to beat all the monsters in the game before the terror level reaches it’s maximum! This is done by completing tasks during the hero stage of every round. But the monsters will have a chance to do some damage during their stage.

Why I picked it: I am a sucker for the classic monsters used in this game. I like that different monsters can be used in a game to effect the level of difficulty and keep things fresh since not all the monsters are normally used in one game. My cousin said her son absolutely loves this game and plays all the time. He is an “old” 5 year old but I think this speaks volumes to it’s adaptability and appeal.

General Game Info:

  • Players: 1- 5
  • Age: 10+ although depending on the child younger could definitely work too.
  • Time: Approx 60 minutes
