Movies to Prep for NYC With!
With less than a month left until the big NYC For 40 Girls Getaway, I have been getting in the zone! Researching on Pinterest, blogs, You Tube and my favorite…..movies!
What better way to get pumped than by throwing a good ole movie on the boob tube that features the Big Apple and it’s renowned landmarks? Entertainment and research all in one! (I did this for Disney too. What can I say, I am obsessed with entertainment!)
Now off the top of my head, I could only think of a couple movies with NYC and they were not even very good. SOOO, what else was a girl to do but take to Facebook to ask friends and family their faves? So I took their respected opinions, did a little more research and came up with some solid choices.
The only thing left to do was grab some proper movie watching snacks, turn down the lights to movie setting and turn up the volume!
Oh and I am pretty old school when it comes to my movie snacks. I enjoy a tall cup of cold cola, Snow Caps from time to time and ALWAYS adequately buttered and salted popcorn.
As a side note, my husband bought me a real popcorn maker from Amazon a few years back. I can honestly say it has been one of the best and most used gifts I have ever recieved. I highly recommend getting one if you are anything like us and do family movie nights every weekend.
Anywho, back to the matter at hand. Here is the list of movies I have started watching or plan to watch to psych me up for NYC.
Movies To Watch To Get You Pumped for Your NYC Trip
1. ENCHANTED
A fun and cute little movie that has so much coverage of New York, particularly Central Park. I was actually quite surprised at how much I enjoyed this musical romantic comedy.
2. MUPPETS TAKE MANHATTAN
While my sisters wanted to watch The Neverending Story growing up, I opted for this light hearted and whimsical treat. And I have dreamt of a horse drawn carraige ride since!
3. GHOSTBUSTERS (any of them)
There are some great city shots in all of these movies. But when Lady Liberty helps save the day, that is some epic NYC. And who can forget the library scene in the very begin of the first movie. It makes me want to go!
4. ELF
I feel like I will be like Elf; lost in the big city trying to find my way! I MAY be forced to find that “World’s Best Cup of Coffee”.
5. WHEN HARRY MET SALLY
‘I’ll have what she’s having’. Noone can ever forget that scene (you know the one) . For this reason alone I would check out Katz’s Deli. However there are fantastic backgrounds of several other beautiful areas including Washington Square, the Met and Central Park.
6. BIG
After seeing this movie as a kid, I fantasized of going to a toy store as cool as FAO Swartz. At 40, I still want to go there and get my Hot Cross Buns on!
7. HOME ALONE 2
It is fun watching bad guys get schooled in the city by a kid! And during Christmas time. Plus the Plaza Hotel is beautiful! There are so many nods to the beauty of New York in this movie. It really gets ya into it!
8. BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY’S
I mean, Tiffanys and Audrey Hepburn! It is all I am going to say!
9. THE AVENGERS
A little destruction never hurt anyone, right? There are some great shots of the city shown in the fight scenes! Several of the other movies from the Marvel universe also have fantastic city views as well.
10. MADAGASCAR
I know, I know, a kid’s movie?!? But yes, this is a cute and fun movie and highlights Grand Central Station and the Zoo! So for a little something fun for the fam, this made it on the list!
Here are some honorable mentions:
- You’ve Got Mail
- The Devil Wears Prada
- Sleepless in Seattle
- Serendipity
- Night at the Museum
- King Kong
- Spider Man
- Super Man (Christopher Reeves)
- Wall Street
- The Godfather
The list for movies featuring NYC is just endless with plenty that I have either no desire to see or just simply will not get around to.
As I mentioned, I surveyed my peers, and other than any mentioned above, here is what they said: 27 Dresses, Made of Honor, Manhattan, Coming to America, As Good As It Gets, Splash, Annie Hall, Moonstruck, Crocodile Dundee, Wolf of Wallstreet, Rent, Keeping the Faith, Autumn in New York, One Fine Day, Working Girl, West Side Story.
No matter what your fancy, there are a lot of options. So relax a little while planning with any of the movies I listed and let me know what you think. Or tell me in the comments what movies you would add to the list!
Enjoy!
